Mysteries of Cartull

Tristan returns home from years of working as a mercenary, only to hear the village of Darvarian's Point, where he was born, is gone. While staying at the Friendly Maiden Inn, he meets the owner, Lorraine, and a half-elf named Darien, who become fast friends. News travels fast in the city of Cartull, and soon Darien and he are being taken in front of a magistrate for brawling in the streets. The magistrate assigns a trip into the old city as punishment, which Tristan finds out is considered a death sentence. Are the two cities connected in some way, and how does Tristan fit into the mystery?
