FAQs About Our Editing Services
How long does it take to edit my manuscript?
As with all our publishing processes, the time it takes depends entirely on you as the author. The initial edit typically spans 2-4 weeks. Subsequently, you’ll receive a revised copy for your review and approval and the opportunity to request changes.
Can I trust my editor and approve all changes to expedite the process?
We have confidence in our editors as well! However, we recommend that you review their edits before approving. Editors follow specific style guides, like The Chicago Manual of Style, which may include changes you might have yet to consider, such as serial (Oxford) commas. Approving revisions without review could potentially lead to delays and additional costs if you later find the need for further changes.
Can I communicate directly with my editor?
Your Publication Director serves as the intermediary between you and the editor. Having a trained and experienced liaison streamlines communication. Our specialized technical staff, including editors, designers, and marketers, concentrate solely on their respective areas of expertise and do not directly engage with authors.
Why is the quality of editorial work crucial?
Maintaining high editorial quality is essential because readers have certain expectations regarding professionally published books. Failing to meet these expectations can negatively impact an author’s reputation. We encourage all our authors to present their best work to the readers.
Can my friend edit my book?
While a friend may review an early draft of your manuscript before submission, we recommend that a professional editor still review it. Our editors are publishing experts who adhere to industry-standard resources like The Chicago Manual of Style. While your friend may have grammar expertise, having a diverse group of individuals review your manuscript typically leads to higher-quality results.
Why do I need to review the edits?
Our editors are skilled professionals, but they are also human, and there might be changes you disagree with or wish to modify further. The review process allows you to apply your final touches to your manuscript before it proceeds into production, ensuring that your book aligns with your vision and preferences.
