FAQs About Our Design Services
What does the illustration process involve?
The illustration process begins with an illustration questionnaire, allowing you to choose from various styles. Subsequently, our illustrator will create an initial illustration and line art for the others. You’ll review the illustrations at this stage to ensure they align with your vision and suggest any desired changes. We will color the remaining line art once you are satisfied with the illustrations. The final step involves your review and approval.
How long does the illustration process typically take?
The initial illustration stage usually spans 2-4 weeks. The overall duration depends on the extent of alterations needed and the time you require to review the illustrations. Custom illustrations and artwork can be time-intensive to ensure we deliver our authors the highest-quality product.
Can I communicate directly with my illustrator?
Similar to our editing process, your Publication Director serves as the bridge between you and the illustrator. This arrangement ensures efficient and effective communication. Our specialized technical staff, including editors, designers, and marketers, focus exclusively on their respective areas of expertise and do not have direct interactions with authors.
I have a series of books with illustrations. What is the process for multiple books?
While we recommend that authors work on one book at a time, many have successfully managed multiple books simultaneously. Authors should remember the time commitment required to ensure that all books progress smoothly and are completed within a reasonable timeframe.
What illustration styles do your illustrators specialize in?
Our illustrators offer a range of distinct styles, including:
Cartoon or Humor: This style is infused with fun and humor, often evoking laughter. It’s versatile and can be applied across various genres, featuring parodies and caricatures. It occasionally overlaps with juvenile or whimsical styles.
Fantasy Style: This style combines imagination and reality and is often described as fanciful, dreamy, and wistful. It leans towards a more mythical and otherworldly aesthetic.
Juvenile or Whimsical: Known for its colorful and playful qualities, this style exudes a lighthearted charm. It’s commonly employed in children’s books and fairy tales and may intersect with cartoon or humorous styles.
Science Fiction: This style shares similarities with fantasy but introduces futuristic elements. It can encompass robots, advanced technology, extraterrestrial lifeforms, concepts of time travel, and parallel universes.
These illustration styles provide a range of artistic options to suit various genres and creative preferences.
Can my illustrations span two facing pages in the book?
Yes, this is referred to as a double-page spread. Unlike certain publishers, we consider a double-page spread a single image unless it is exceptionally intricate or complex.
Why is it necessary for me to complete an illustration questionnaire?
The illustration questionnaire allows you to convey your artistic vision to the illustrator. Providing detailed and comprehensive information is crucial for staying on schedule and accurately capturing your vision.
Will the illustrator read my manuscript?
No, the illustrator typically does not read the manuscript. This is why the descriptions and details you provide in the illustration questionnaire are of utmost importance in guiding the artist’s work and aligning it with your creative vision.
